Cortes
A fully handstitched apron-front venetian slip-on. A smooth hand-burnished Sandstone Tan apron and toe insert sit inside a hand-woven basket-weave shell in the same warm tan calf. Red-lacquered leather sole and cherry-red calfskin lined — a shoe with a private flash of colour only visible from below. Cut, lasted, and stitched by hand at our atelier.
The Red Sole & the Neva 403
The Cortes rests on the Neva 403 last — a soft, wide-forefoot slip-on last with a slightly rounded toe and a low, open instep. The upper is cut in two contrasting textures of the same Sandstone Tan calf: a smooth hand-burnished apron and toe insert sit like an island inside a hand-woven basket-weave shell that wraps the quarters, heel, and toe periphery.
The weave is built by hand from narrow strips of the tan calf, each cell interlaced and pressed flat before the leather is patinated. The apron and toe insert are hand-burnished separately, then set into the shell so the two textures share the same colour but read at completely different depths — a shoe you can see twice from the same angle.
The signature detail is the sole. Full-grain leather, dyed and hand-lacquered to a wet-shine cherry red on the underside — a flash of colour only visible when you sit down or cross your legs. The heel edge and welt piping share the same tone. Lined throughout in cherry-red calfskin.
