A fully handstitched wholecut oxford in hand-burnished Peanut Brown calf. Cut from a single piece of leather — no seams anywhere across the vamp or quarters — and finished with a geometric hand-punched diamond medallion at the toe. Warm caramel-tan calfskin lined. Cut, lasted, and stitched by hand at our atelier.
The Wholecut & the Kuban 306
The Montfaucon rests on the Kuban 306 last — a long, closed Italian dress last with a sharp almond toe and a fine waist. It is a wholecut oxford — the shoemaker's proving-ground shape. The entire upper is cut from one continuous piece of leather. No cap-toe seam. No quarter seams. No apron. Only a single hidden back seam at the heel where the two edges of the pattern finally meet.
A wholecut is unforgiving: any flaw in the leather — a scar, an uneven grain, a soft spot — will read across the entire shoe. The hide has to be perfect from the start, and the pattern-cutter has to lay it out to catch the shoulder curve so the leather stretches evenly around the last. It is the shoe every atelier makes to prove they can.
The peanut-brown patina is built up in successive hand-applied glazes — a lifted warm caramel at the vamp arch, deepened to a rich mahogany at the counter and toe periphery, sealed under wax to a warm dimensional shine. At the toe, a geometric hand-punched diamond medallion sits alone as the shoe's single decorative element. A matching line of fine perforations traces the topline behind the lacing. Lined throughout in warm caramel-tan calfskin. Goodyear-welted onto a hand-burnished natural leather sole with a dark walnut edge and cream twisted-thread stitching along the welt.
